Pan Pacific Defense

History

The Pan Pacific Defense Corps (PPDC) was founded in November 2014 during the Seoul Conference, 
a direct global response to the "K-Day" attack on San Francisco that revealed the existential threat of the Kaiju. 
Uniting 21 nations along the Pacific Rim, this unprecedented military alliance bypassed traditional geopolitics to 
pool the planet's scientific, economic, and military resources under one banner. The PPDC's defining breakthrough 
was the creation of the Jaegers Program, establishing localized naval fortresses called Shatterdomes to construct and 
launch the massive, neurally-linked mechanised robots. Though the organization nearly collapsed when world 
governments withdrew funding in 2024 to build coastal walls, the PPDC executed a desperate, successful counter-
offensive to seal the Breach, cementing its legacy as the ultimate shield of unified humanity.

Jaegers

Jaegers are colossal, human-piloted mechanised weapons created by the PPDC to combat the Kaiju threat without the 
collateral devastation of nuclear warfare. Towering dozens of stories high, these walking fortresses require a unique neural 
link known as the "Drift," which splits the immense neurological load of controlling the machine between two co-pilots who 
must share a deep, symbiotic mental connection. Developed across distinct tech generations called "Marks," Jaegers evolved 
from slow, nuclear-powered heavy brawlers into highly agile, digitally advanced combat units equipped with localized weaponry 
like plasma casters and chain swords. More than mere military assets, these towering giants became global symbols of human 
resilience, turning the tide of the war by matching the monsters in brute scale and hand-to-hand combat.

Kaiju

The Kaiju are not natural animals, but genetically engineered bioweapons sent through an interdimensional portal 
at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean by an alien race known as the Precursors. Classified by a toxicity and size rating 
called the Serizawa Scale, these colossal monsters possess highly corrosive, ammonia-based blood—known as 
"Kaiju Blue"—that contaminates the environment upon their defeat. Unlike traditional movie monsters that act on 
primal instinct, Pacific Rim's Kaiju operate with a hive mind, sharing memories and strategies to deliberately target 
high-density human population centres and systematically dismantle human civilisations to pave the way for alien colonisation.
