my level 40 bot (this one) requires less exp to next level than my level 35? how does this work?

xp drop. the dropoff levels are 35, 80, 150, and 180. The rate at which experience gaps grow slows down at these levels.

Xp levels drop off after level 35 and at other levels:

33 - 1,328,338 - 306,539
34 - 1,726,839 - 398,501
35 - 2,244,891 - 518,052
36 - 2,469,379 - 224,488
37 - 2,716,317 - 246,938
38 - 2,987,949 - 271,632
