Any rough estimate of how long it'll take? Imo tournaments are the last major part of the game that is missing, so I'd love to see them come in soonish.

Yes, I agree. However, this may be a while to come back. Thats a lot of coding and scripting.

Perhaps it would be easier if the tournaments were more manual, like we are responsible for engaging the fights but a system keeps score.

Yeah it's a fairly large undertaking so I don't have a timeframe.

A player-run tournament is an interesting idea that I'd not thought of. And at the risk of sounding like I'm pushing off responsibility for it onto you guys (I'm not!), having someone else step up to organize and run a tourney until I can do it for real sounds pretty cool. I don't even know how feasible that is though, really haven't given it any thought.

  • Put all players into a user_tourny table
  • Organize by level ranges
  • First person :
    • fights the rest of the people in the range
  • second person :
    • fights the next people
  • etc...
  • all while going into a wins/loss table of ranges.

  • get winner.

Problems I see:

  • How to enroll players
  • How to get statistics of enrolled players
  • Prizes(if any?) and recognition(trophies?)

Thank you Ender, I am happy to help out.

If you sir could add a system similar to Clan Score, where you get points for attacking certain people while a certain status is active, that would be pleanty.

You'd have to be able to attack down.

Each user gets to enroll. They get a tourny_applied = 'yes'.

Then, a loop goes through, puts those users into a user_tourny table. all their "needed" stats go into that table.

Easy stuff.

The whole point of 'player run' means ender doesn't have to do anything. How will the player know the stats of an enrollee.

I think Alan is maybe giving me coding tips? To be clear, I'm not puzzled about how to implement a tournament. It's a time issue.

The people that made up the parties. FFVII & XII you could exchange any character you wanted and chose who you wanted to contol as the leader. XIII seemed to not have that and it was really annoying trying to use Vanille as leader.

Oh right, Final Fantasy. I was just lost on the context.

I'm not far in yet, but I do like the battle system.
