What is a 'freak bot' and is there a particular way of building one, any advice would be appreciated.

When your bot uses equipment it no longer has the required stats for, that's called "freaking". It's a way to make your bot perform better (better equipment = more damage / protection)

There's a downside: the equipment takes a lot more damage, so it wears out faster. And it's not easy to freak your bot without some stars. Stars give you more stash, so you can swap equipment around more easily.
