Once the forums allow some sort of coding, I assume every post with a > or < or similar will be broken in some way?

Or will old posts be archived under some sorta 'legacy' kinda thing and not be broken 'till touched via some sort of editing etc?

That is, of course, assuming we get any of these fancy features. As a forum (ab)user, I tend to like the idea of embedding images/gigantic text/colored text etc, so yeah

:)

He could use [] instead.

I would assume that the markup gets parsed before the post is put into the database, so old posts won't break.

And what if old posts with <> thingies are broken? It's not like the Bots4 forum is the control center for japanese nuclear power plants.

I'll probably end up going with markdown formatting. It wouldn't be hard to apply different formatting to legacy posts if necessary, but I don't think it will be.

And I'll almost definitely be parsing the markup as it comes out of the database. This avoids potential consistency issues if something changes in the parsing or there's a bug or something. It also makes it easier to handle edits.
