Very few players are online at the same time so it won't be difficult to see your friends in the online list.

The online list IS my friends list. Everybody loves me.

I get the point of this in the post office, but not for the online list.

Also, a friends list would require you to have friends. And if you were a true friend to someone you'd know what time(s) he/she logged on, what time(s) he/she goes to the bathroom, what he/she eats for breakfast, lunch and supper, and how much energy, kudos, levels, or dumpers/whores you believe he/she is capable of producing.
