You got to be prepared! Have you made plans what stores to loot yet? |
Why is it mandatory? When cyclone yasi came through very few people were made to evacuate? |
If i understand things correctly, the biggest city Yasi hit was Cairns, population +100k. Compare that to the 8 million in NYC alone. |
Doesn't have anything to do with the standard the houses have to be built to in Queensland? :p |
I think flooding is the biggest risk. Big population + flood = big problem. |
I see, and to my understanding a cat 5 cyclone is only a cat 4 Hurricane? |
Read somewhere that they told people that will not evacuate to put their ID card in their left shoe, so it will make identification easier... wtf :) |
What cat is the storm at the moment? and what is it expected to be? |

Good luck! seems like you get these storms each summer :/ |
For NY its like the first time in 30 years :) |
Last i seen is that the storm is a category 3, but dont get fooled by the number, what i also learned today is that a category 3 hurricane on the middle/north east coast can be as devastating as a category 5 on the southern coasts (where the hurricanes usually comes in). The reason for that was indeed the building codes, doors/windows for example is not "hurricane safe" by standards on the northern east coast. And i found something about the angle that the hurricane has when it pass by would make the water have nowhere to go except into/onto land. This together with the moon currently in position for higher than normal high tides could be an "amplifier". I hope it goes back out to sea. |
