Hey I work a dual system!

Hotness makes sense in Fahrenheit & coldness makes sense in Centigrade.

For example

100 Fahrenheit boy oh boy it's hot. I could crack an egg & cook it on that car bonnet!

/flips on a fan or too

-1 Centigrade brrr chilly :( look even the water's freezing!

/snuggles under a blanket

Kelvin kicks Celsius and Fahrenheit's asses though.

0 F = damn it's cold outside!
100 F = damn it's hot outside!

0 C = pretty cold outside!
100 C = dead

0 Kelvin = dead
100 Kelvin = dead

"Within the unregulated sector, such as journalism, the use of Fahrenheit in the United Kingdom follows no fixed pattern with degrees Fahrenheit often appearing alongside degrees Celsius. When publishing news stories, much of the UK press adopted a convention of using Celsius in headlines relating to low temperatures and Fahrenheit for high temperatures. In February 2006, the writer of an article in The Times suggested that the rationale was one of emphasis: "−6 C sounds colder than 21 F and 94 F sounds more impressive than 34 C".

That's fucked up :)

That's easy, always wear a hoodie and douchebag baseball cap and have a a backpack full of random clothes for all the seasons on you at all times. Throw in some matches, lighter fluid and firewood while you're at it. This is how you survive a heat or winter-based apocalypse when you are a hipster.

I'm more worried about the fact that if it is so hot around the world, how will anyone ever get to play Destiny? Their machines will explode after only like, 7 hours of gameplay! WHO CAN LIVE ON SUCH MEAGER GAME TIME?

That is fucked up Jans. Why can't you be more like Canadians and only use the Celsius scale? I mean sure my mother and father still use the Fahrenheit system without really knowing the conversion factors but they were raised before SI measurements were used in Canada. Mind you Kelvin is the SI unit for temperature but at least we changed from inches and stones and shit to milligrams etc. like civilized people from the 1700s and onward.

Fun fact: Celsius is the temperature based on the properties of water and nothing else.

I'm dutch, Zal, metric ftw ;)

Only the yanks and jamaicans officially use fahrenheit. The first because they think they rule, and the second because they're probably too stoned to care otherwise.

And don't get me started on yards, inches, ounces and the rest of the mess that is the imperial 'system'..

DarkNinjaMaster [42]

It's not really the temperature in NZ that matters, it's that we are close to the thinnest part of the ozone layer. While in your North American and European summers you can sit around in the sun all day with your meager amounts of protection, in NZ we slap on 35+ spf sunblock just to get to our car.

Hyperbole notwithstanding, NZ has some of the highest rates of melanoma in the world, and during the ninetys the "ozone hole" actually covered NZ during some summers, the TV PSA's at the time were hilarious.

Also Imperial measurements are stupid, and you'd have to be stupid to use them. Not an insult to anyone, definitely an insult to their governments.

I don't make fat mom jokes, unless it's my fat cock in your mom.

In any case, the metric system was designed by ignorant people for ignorant people, to simplify everything. We prefer to use the more English (read "American") way.

In other news: Although the United Kingdom uses the metric system for most official purposes, the use of the imperial system of measure, particularly among the public, is widespread, and is legally mandated in various cases.

So suck it!

For ignorant people? You trolling? :) Metrics are simple, not simplistic.

Wanna do this? Ok lets do this. Let's get into how utterly retarded the imperial measurements are \o/

Quiztime, no googling! What is 1 ounce?

A) 1.727 cubic inch
B) 1.7337 cubic inch
C) 1.8045 cubic inch
D) 1.898 cubic inch

And the answer is.......

.............................

.............................

.............................

E! All of the above!

Why? Because there are FOUR kinds of ounces! Buahaha!

And then there are 2 kinds of pounds, 2 kinds of tons, 2 kinds of feet/inches, 3 kinds of miles and 3 kinds of pints, quarts and gallons... ... Whahahaha :D

8 pints in a gallon, 12 inch in a foot, 14 pounds in a stone, 16 ounce in a pound, 20 ounce in a pint... Buehehe ^_^

By comparison, the metric units of meter (1 kind), liter (1 kind) and gram (1 kind) are so universal and simple, they're kinda boring. A 7yo can work with them.

But actually prefering the mickey mouse imperial measurements, that's.. whats the word.. ah yes.

That's the point :)

An ounce could be 2 kinds of unit of weight (avoirdupois and troy). Or 2 kinds of unit of volume (US and UK).
"An ounce of water" could be any of the 4 cubic inches mentioned.

And to complete the clusterfuck, an ounce can also be a unit of length and force!

*cries laughing*

You're pulling this information from multiple countries variations of stuff.

The US doesn't do business with other countries? It has to be considered 'normal' that there are different definitions of what is an ounce, a ton, a mile, etc?

But even within your own borders there are differences. The only ounce you're not using is obviously the UK-ounce. But the other 5 (!) are existing and in use in America today.

Although some have very specific purposes and aren't used in day to day life, such as the 'ounce' that's used to measure the thickness of leather. (lolwut)

What's heavier? An ounce of gold or an ounce of feathers?

An ounce of gold! - because that's measured in ounce-troy, which is 1.1 ounce-avoirdupois!

I'm not saying the imperial system is broken. Just that it's highly impractical. And funny to me :)

The imperial system is like your penis Jans, anything you aren't using is obviously going to be funny. :)

Anyway, we're not saying the metric system isn't easier to use, it's just that the imperial system has been around for ages and to us it's natural. Natural progression should see us moving to the metric system as our official system, but we're stubborn.

I'd like to see it happen with our military budget that's higher than the GDP of most countries. If it somehow does happen, I'd immediately quit and convert to whatever country takes over anyway due to our government failing horribly at the only thing it seems to really care about.
