I'm coming to the end of all the episodes of Fringe that they made, I've watched most of the good sci-fi movies that are out there. I need something new to watch and I'm open to suggestions.

I like sci-fi but enjoy anything that's intelligently written, ie I can't stand Continuum even though it has all the hallmarks of something I'd like, it's stupid as all hell.

Suggest me good tv/movies, please, I'm bored.

Breaking Bad is really good. I enjoyed Mad Men a lot. Walking Dead is really good. American Horror Story is pretty good as well.

There's a lot of well written intelligent shows out there at the moment. Try some of these:
- True Detectives
- Hannibal
- Les Revanants (The Returned)
- Sherlock Holmes (with Benedict Cumberbatch)
- Fargo (the movie & series)

Then there are the obvious:
- Game of Thrones
- Spartacus
- Breaking Bad
- American Horror Story

Classics:
- Babylon 5
- Farscape
- DS9
- Carnivale
- American Gothic

Oddly British:
- Being Human (avoid the shit US version)
- Misfits
- Peaky Blinders
- Dr Who

Just plain weird:
- Lexx
- Twin Peaks

I watched a good sci-fi science fiction movie a week or two ago called Snowpiercer. I really enjoyed it.

Dam Sherlock Holmes is so good I've the box set and still never managed to get around too watching series 2+3 gives me something to do next month

Yeah for such a narrow premise (ha puns) Snowpiercer was surprisingly awesome, and free from cliche. I'd recommend it to anybody.

I have watched BB, I never got into GoT, doesn't really appeal to me. I watched DS9 on televison when it was running, like all Star Trek, but I never saw Babylon 5 so I'll go watch some.

Firefly, such promise, what a shame. I can never remember where I got up too with Walking Dead, maybe I'll just start from the beginning. I guess I could catch up with Deadliest Catch and Spongebob, oh and that reminds me, it's Adventure Time!

I haven't seen this suggested yet, so: The Wire. Five seasons, that should keep you busy for a while. It's not the typical cops vs baddies action nonsense. It's more than that, and can be quite 'slow' at times. But i like that :) Season one is from 2002 i think, so it's getting a little outdated.

Jans likes his shows 'slow' so he can follow along lol

And if you do go with Babylon 5, do know that it starts off a little slow and takes awhile to build up the overarching plot. If you're not hooked by season 3 (or 2 really), you can give up. :)

Rose got me hooked on Hell on Wheels (though it's not the genre you're looking for) and Defiance (this one you might find interesting).

I started Almost Human, it was okish.

Dexter is always a good show, though the latter seasons start to get shitty.

you might find Grimm interesting, though it too started to get way too bizarre for my liking.

I've heard good things about Sleepy Hollow, though I myself have not watched it yet.

Same with Under the Dome.

All in all, rose is a decent source for generally good television watching.

I've tried to start BSG several times Trio & never quite got into it. It may be because I associate too much with the original & I need to expel that notion; as aside from the names it is completely different. I suspect if I persisted I would like it. I guess I need to box set blitz it one day.

& Jans avoid Samuli's movies, he does odd stuff with fish ...

If you want a show you can get into right away try Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County

My recent travels took me through Jersey, to think people actually live like that...

I don't like Dexter, or most other murder glamorisation shows. Also I marathoned BSG, and while most of it is excellent 10/10 would recommend, some isn't good, and yes, it's different from the original so most people that liked that series dislike the new one, although the main complaint I've seen is "Omahgerd Y u make Cylons look like Humans" so, maybe not too valid.

Also I finished watching how I met your mother, what the fuck was that about? Talk about failure of epic proportions.

imo it started out pretty funny, middle was ok, the last season though, don't even bother

HIMYM was funny, then it gave way to more slow progressing story.

BSG definitely had it's dissappointments, season 3 I think, can't remember exactly, would need to watch it again.

Hmm I'd discuss that with you but perhaps we should keep this thread spoiler free in case anyone hasn't seen it and would like to.

Although BSG spoilers are kinda redundant, it's not like we're talking about the latest episode of GoT.

Speaking of that I watch a couple of twitch streams that run at the time that drops, holy shit is that funny as all hell watching the mods try to stop people from posting spoilers in those chats. By the end of the streams I usually know most of the plot, about 3 hours after the episode drops. So much rage, so entertaining, the fanboys (and girls I suppose, I hear there is a lot of male nudity on that show which must be nice for them) need to learn to just stay offline until they've seen it really.

speaking of GoT; i didn't realize S04E10 was the season's finale, so i've been waiting for new episodes for two weeks >_<

Life without GoT is painful. But no way would they let us have another episode after those last two scenes.

All this thread has made me think is that I should be watching TV once in a while rather than bingeing on series' at a time on Netflix

There's far fewer on Netflix UK and since I used my Xbox for it I can't use a proxy. First World Problems.

Ha I found this and this so I put the above list on the backburner for a while ;)

With it being so hot this last weekend, we fired up netflix and tried to keep ourselves cold with wet towels.

We started on the show Suits, and so far I can definitely recommend it.

Other shows you should definitely give a watch:

• The Newsroom (usually not my kind of show, but really well written)
