We tried this with another bot, 20lvls+ below mine.

Prototype [65] attacked you 16 times.
You won 9 times and lost 7 times.
You gained 0 exp.

So the defender gets no xp if the attacker is 20+ lvls below?

yea!! or is it jus that smeagols bots and my bots dnt like each other so much that they dont give each other xp? hmmm now thats the troubling question...

Your bot doesn't gain any xp because it's level is too high compared to the attacker. I'm not entirely sure, but I think if the attacker's level < 0.8*defender's level there is no xp gain for the defender.

What bluei said is correct. You do not gain experience from beating much lower level bots.

However, in the process of investigating this, I found a problem with the experience formula. Look at this part of it:

1 + ( 5 * ( [Target's Level] - [Your Level] ) ) / [Your Level]

If your level is much higher than your opponents', this value is negative. With 87 and 110, it's -0.0455. This was resulting in experience actually being *taken away* from the higher level bot. You weren't seeing this negative value in the fight history because this is stored as an unsigned integer, thus masking the bug.

This probably explains the (very rare) deleveling bug as doing so obviously requires the ability to lose experience.

OMG i was losing xp as i was winning every fight ahhhhhhh very interesting though.. well at least we kno now so no more negatives yay.. lets try n make life positive.
