I think the post preview would be more useful if it showed your post at the end of all the previous posters. That way if someone posts a few minutes/seconds before you, you'll know and be able to change your post as necessary.
In addition, it might also be useful to have the message box at the bottom of the thread so that you can easily refer to above posts without having to open it in a new tab.
