I live in Western Australia, the cost of living here is pretty high, but the mining industry puts a lot of cash in everyone's pockets. I do corporate IT for a mining contractor, so I sit around most of the time waiting for something to catch fire. The cost of living in a particular city generally dictates the average pay for employment there.

yeah thats right. my mate flys in and out of WA working at acrilic diamond mine, and he brings home about 4,500 a week after taxes!

Until you find out It's $15 for a sandwich and a coke. Or that buying games on steam are $20-$30 more expensive for no reason. Or Rent for a shitty unit in the distant suburbs starts at $275/week plus utilities.

That's the same as where I'm from, it's because there's so many miners and all the locals know so they up there prices on food and rent petrol everything... I live in a shit town of a population of 10,000 and the rent is 250 - 600 a WEEK! That's fucked! And diesel is 1.68 a litre :/ shitty stuff!
