Not exactly a question about how the game works :p but normally they are more than happy to tell me how much I annoyed them :)

How did you know you beat them to item #2 and #3? After the trophy you can't really tell if someone else wanted it. Though the best way to find out is check who is in the showroom when you buy the item and if they are an appropriate level/type of bot to need the same item.
