I'm all for replacing some of these bad words.
However, we kinda haven't and that makes it really awkward to try and communicate sometimes...
Can we, as a community, try to come together and agree on some new terms?
Maybe the game could even then incorporate those terms (like it used to show an "r-word limit" being reached and all that).
No bad suggestions for replacement, imo. Honestly, everything will sorta feel unnatural and forced... until it doesn't. We're just so used to old terms. But... there really wasn't anything natural about those terms either... we just grew accustomed to them.
And seems silly to state they shouldn't be replaced either, fwiw. We aren't going back... so question is how to move forward.
Any ideas for substitutes?

I swapped the language in my profiles, but honestly anything out of the norm is going to require a little bit of forcefulness. Saying the words we use commonly, even if they have negative connotation to them in other world usages, are still common place for a reason. They flow and fit the narrative of their usage. So we're all going to have to force ourselves to use other language at first in order to make it common place and take over the old.

Raid/Raid Limit would be best for one I think as it sounds similar and is appropriate, the other I'm not sure haven't really given it much thought.
|
Because we use the word wh0r3 to really supplement any defenseless bot and it's all inclusiveness is really why it thrives. Whether it be Ratio/XP bots, energy bots, win bots, etc. It really fits all those options. So we'd need to locate another, less offensive word, to also include all of those options and also not be so aggressively negative. "politically correct" I guess. :D
Unguarded perhaps? Helpless. Unprotected. Wasted.
As for the other word we use, attacked seems like a good alternative to use...
|
In the spirit of the ChatGPT posts recently, I asked it for some alternatives:
Alternative for "R*pe" (attacking & defeating a robot multiple times in a day)
- Wreck β "I wrecked that bot today."
- Overload β "I overloaded that bot with attacks."
- Melt β "That bot got melted today."
- Max-Out β "I maxed out my attacks on that bot."
- Full Send β "I full-sent my attacks on it."
- Overheat β "I overheated that bot today." (fits with the idea of pushing it to the limit)
- Shutdown β "That bot got shut down."
- Core Drain β "I drained its core today."
- Salvage Run β "Did my salvage run on that bot."
- Max Charge β "I max-charged my attacks on it."
- Reactor Meltdown β "That bot got melted down."
Alternative for "Wh*r*s" (a very weak robot meant to be attacked often)
- Dummy β "That bot is just a dummy for farming."
- Target β "It's just a target bot."
- Scrap β "That's a scrap bot, easy points."
- Farmbot β "Just another farmbot."
- Decoy β "It's a decoy, made to take hits."
- Spar Bot β "That's just a spar bot." (suggests it's there for practice)
- Junk Bot β "Another junk bot for farming."
- Scrap Heap β "That bot is scrap heap material."
- Drain Bot β "Itβs a drain bot for easy energy."
- Shell β "Just a shell, no real fight in it."
- Punching Bag β "That botβs just a punching bag."
|
Lmao, "buying 5 reactor meltdowns".
|
"Buying 5 overloads from your drain bot."
|
Completely agreed.
But, I think it would be beneficial, however, to maybe discuss what the swapped terms would even be.
Not sure what community may even like as replacement terms though.
I think it's made harder because game itself hasn't used a term to replace anything.
Let's say the game simply said something like "completed" or "fought to completion" or "completion limit" or something... would seem rather awkward at first, but would fairly quickly be adapted by community probably, as it would genuinely be the game term.
As is, we sorta would very much be forcing a term, without it being a genuine game term. So... kinda is gonna be forced.
Anyone have any good replacement terms we might all consider trying to use... because it kinda is on the community at the moment...
And most awkward part, imo, is simply that it's tough to try to quickly communicate these concepts with the community seemingly lacking quick replacement terms.
Personally, I could care less what the community wants to use. Could be completely made-up nonsense words, as long as everyone knows what they are. I mean, that's most words we use anyways, with most straying very far from original meaning and all.
I really don't think there's any bad ideas.
We... just all would have to decide to start using those replacement terms and make them accepted.
|
We were already using fight limit as a term interchangeably. Ratio(your mom) can at least get abbreviated as RW and most people will know it. But something like broken min con dumpers, win dumpers, or generic trash ratio energy targets I think is the most annoying to warp words around.
|
Honest suggestion would be for each person to use what they feel is appropriate and eventually a clear winner will emerge as a more suitable replacement.
|
Jeez, in the time it took me to reply to Zach... everyone started weighing in. :)
I'm down with anything.
Good to see some action here.
Let's do this! Go bots community.
|
Did you just call me zach? Those are fighting words. I'm going to core drain your bot and turn it into a scrap heap.

Not down with this.
Language simply doesn't work if everyone is speaking a different language.
And, currently, it's just much more effective and easy to use the old terms with each other exactly because there isn't a replacement terms that's universally recognized... so its sorta like we have everyone using a different word to describe something if they don't want to grab the low-hanging fruit.
...which truly is inefficient and awkward.
It's like we're playing a game where you're not allowed to say a word and have to try and get the listener to guess what you're describing instead.
|
Yeah, don't make me max charge your spar bot with my tournament shells.
|

I did. lol
I... barely pay any attention to whoever is posting anything, tbh. :P
I really just use the forums to hear myself speak. The rest of you are pretty insignificant and interchangeable, mate. :P
|
I think you're thinking far to much into it. I feel if we all use our own words, there will be eventual overlap. People will still get the gist of the language (we'll all know what we're talking about. I'm not suggesting making up new words or describing things people are clearly on the same page about). I'm not saying using left field words to describe taking a bot to attack limit. But if I said I was going to max out the attack limit on your bot, rather than saying "r@p3" it, people would get the meaning.
|
I kinda like "wreck" "dummy" or "farmbot" - those seems like they sorta have similar vibes and/or are pretty easy to quickly decipher...
|
But at the end of the day, each individual person is going to have to be responsible for him or herself(I use this lightly as I doubt many play this game). We can argue and debate all we want in a forum thread but if you can't hold yourself accountable and use different language when talking about or referring to these things then none of it will matter.
|

I hear that ALL THE TIME about EVERYTHING...

This is clearly demonstrated by the fact people use methods to circumvent the filter to continue to use the word (rather than doing so just to illustrate the word we're talking about) rather than coming up with other words to use to convey their message.

I actually made this thread after game asked me to edit a post and was like, "what am I supposed to even edit this word to?"
I made the O's into 0's.
...but if I felt there was an actual replacement term that was remotely recognized as a substitute...
So, here I am.
|
I just add numbers of words like it's 2005 all over again and boom, no more problems. 1'M s0 l33t.
|
I'd rather not just circumvent the rules there though. Ideally, I just think we'd sorta come together and work a little towards actually replacing the terms...
