Since we don't have a record page, I was thinking we should maybe have one at speedrun.com.

That would only be for timed runs such as running for lvl 200 or so.

Hopefully this would make that part more interesting, and maybe encourage other speedrunners to try bots4.

What do you think?

And what categories should be raced?

Wouldn't work with this game. People can level up their bots with ratio whores by attacking them if they want. You could have level 300 bots with less than 20 minutes of playtime. Same for energy scoring and dumpers.

Speedrun games need to essentially have only 1 player vs the game. There can't be any other factors really.

no one gets too 300 under 24 hours of playtime, so 20 min is a dumb suggestion/prediction

What I meant is that if you say had a level 200, 210,220 ratio whore etc. that you could attack your bot you wanted to "speedrun" and give it xp. With enough ratio whores the main "speedrun" bot would just have to be logged on for weapons/armors/stats, which could also just be ordered with stars. Therefore it would have an artificially low playtime. I was giving an example of what could happen, doesn't mean it will.

I mean there's level 100 bots out there with around 40 minutes of playtime with fully camped answerers. The camping for answerers alone should be higher than that :/

Like this bot

It just wouldn't work out well is all I think.

I know, but for THIS game isn't that part of the game?

Speedrunning isn't something I'm interested in, so I have no opinion on whether it should be/already is part of the game or not. Games to me are for enjoyment, not breaking my wrists trying to beat records and give myself an early heart attack from anger :P

It's up to Ender regardless. I just pointed out flaws. This isn't like playing through Mario or anything :) My estimates for time are low though. I just couldn't care less if someone got to level 100 an hour before me is all. There's plenty of bots that already have and I don't care.

That's the idea behind speedrunning Zal, to achieve a certain goal with the least amount of time spent using whatever resources available. Using ratio whores isn't cheating, and in fact I would say you're intentionally gimping yourself by not using them. And btw that bot doesn't have answerers :p

This is something that I think would be pretty interesting, as it would be difficult to optimise and involve a little bit of luck with showroom upgrades. Not many people have the resources to compete above level 100 though. A separate category for training only bots may be helpful to allow players without ratio whores to compete.

We can make different categories and rules.

Like pokemon has glitchless and free rules, crash team racing has any% and 101%

My suggestions:

lvl 100

lvl 200

lvl 300

lvl 100 max 10 trains

lvl 200 max 10 trains

lvl 300 max 10 trains

What do you think?

In order to suggest the game I need a first run. I think a screenshot of the profile should be sufficient evidence.

Anyone who wants to be first?

Ya, I didn't check it, I just assumed. It was winding serpents. Still, there's a level of camping involved. Heck, I've spent a hour looking for a Bloodfist one time.

It'd work well if people abide by the rules set in place though. I would focus on lower level goals if you wanted to attract new speedrunners like level 20-100. You could add win goals also. Or maybe freaked goals etc. Or quickest to 100 with silly weapons like shamshirs or mauls.

Do what you like though. I'm more surprised this thread has been up for 21 hours without Ender's reply, he normally likes to chat about this stuff :P

I like watching speedrunners of old SNES/N64 games from time to time, never thought I'd see it considered for bots4. :) More power to you all if you want to try it!

Thanks for the feedback everyone..

The detailed rules will be hard to control, unless people stream their runs... Which they could do...

I'm running into a very busy week, but I'll pick it up afterwards...

Does anyone know of a bot that have done a quick run to 100 (or 200)?

It would be nice to have a speedruns that will include training only so then you can see who has the real skill how to use stat points and be able to click really fast, showroom will be based on luck but that's ok. i'm against for speedruns using ratio whores, because people will have to invest time into the game just to be able to speedrun with others, so that doesn't make sense because anyone should start speedrun just b making a new bot. it's kinda similar to diablo2 speedrun you build your character and start running as fast as you can, it's not like you come into the game with another character and give a teleport to the last waypoint

I like the training only idea...

I do think that building other bots to aid your main is such a big part of this game, that it is okay. But say we have categoties of only training and an open/max 10 trains, people can speedrun whicheber they like..

As of the luck aspect, that is the case with many popular speed running games including pokemon, diablo and crash team racing

Trains only could be interesting Opening ratio whores to it at all is not advisable since theres chains all the way past 300 you can use.

There would have to be some rule about stars for training only. Someone with 20 stars on their bot would be able to access better weapons/armours far earlier than those with none, so it would be a big advantage.

That and those that utilize Jane as well have another advantage

We can make 2 categories let's say 1 & 2. like diablo has SC and HC. 1st category will include training only, no stars and no Jane. 2nd category - stars, ratio whores and anyting else that is possible to use.

Anyone can use Jane, so I don't see how it can be an advantage if everyone uses her. Maybe it adds a bit a stronger luck factor but that's about it.

Another important consideration is what would the run times be based off, RL or in-game time? You could theoretically log off between every train and have an artificially lower in-game time. However if it is based off real time, then people will have to finish their runs in one sitting. Even getting to level 100 in one sitting requires some pretty serious dedication - I don't think anyone managed it even when this game went live.

Not everyone knows about Jane was more the point newer players probably have no idea it exists

Jane: Well, knowing every aspect of a game is what makes you a good speed runner, isn't it?

I like the input on categories... Nut it would mean that runs would have to be recorded rather than just a screenshot of the bot profile...

The dame problem exists with the in-game time and real-time...
