Freaking is a way to equip better armours than you would normally be able to buy. It's done by finding equipment that gives plenty of strength and dexterity (for example, Twitchthroe, +6 str, +6 dex), equipping that to temporarily increase your stats, and then equipping new, better armour and weapons that you wouldn't normally have access to.
To use a really simple example, imagine you have this pretty strong level 20 bot. It's got great armours and would beat most other level 20s. It pretty much can't be improved without freaking.
Level 20 war hammers (x2)STR CON DEX INT ARMOR Hawkmail +4 120 Duskdeep +2 +4 55 Bloodfist +4 +3 17 Goblin Toe +4 +3 -2 32 war hammer (16-32) war hammer (16-32) +6 +4 +14 -2 224 STR : 67 = 61 +6 Left-hand : 26.7-53.4 CON : 39 = 35 +4 Right-hand : 26.7-53.4 DEX : 24 = 10+14 HP : 440 INT : 8 = 10 -2 Block : 5.00% Absorb : 29.93%
Decent bot with a lot of camping and effort put in, but pretty basic and not properly planned. With those stats, you could focus entirely on +strength armours and get yourself some mauls by buying the following armours:
Level 20 mauls (x2)STR CON DEX INT ARMOR Twitchthroe +6 -8 +6 60 The Face of Horror +10 -2 -4 -3 48 Fire Touch +5 +4 40 Goblin Toe +4 +3 -2 32 maul (25-50) maul (25-50) +25 -10 +5 -1 180 STR : 86 = 61+25 Left-hand : 46.5-93.0 CON : 25 = 35-10 Right-hand : 46.5-93.0 DEX : 15 = 10 +5 HP : 300 INT : 9 = 10 -1 Block : 5.00% Absorb : 26.83%
Once you have equipped your mauls, they're yours! So they aren't going anywhere, now we can put on some proper armours on, helped with our temporarily higher strength and have a build like this:
Level 20 mauls (x2)STR CON DEX INT ARMOR Venom Ward +3 +3 130 Blood Finder -5 +5 +7 -4 70 Bloodfist +4 +3 17 Goblin Toe +4 +3 -2 32 maul (25-50) maul (25-50) -1 +12 +16 -6 249 STR : 60 = 61 -1 Left-hand : 40.0-80.0 CON : 47 = 35+12 Right-hand : 40.0-80.0 DEX : 26 = 10+16 HP : 520 INT : 5 = 10 -6 Block : 5.00% Absorb : 31.56%
We don't have the strength required to wield the weapons or half the armour anymore, but that's fine and within the rules of the game. This new bot has better weapons, higher health AND absorb and would absolutely dominate the first one in any type of tournament. (That being said, examples are entirely for demonstration and you don't need to point out if you could freak a level 20 better!)
Freaking has downsides, such as insane camping and kudo requirements (stars help a lot), but it can make bots of a much higher quality when properly planned. If you want to do well in tournaments, its pretty much a requirement to be Freaked, but it's generally not recommended for scoring as the downsides outweigh the advantages.
This doesn't cover everything you need to know about Freaking as it's just an introduction, so if you have any questions feel free to message me or post here.
