When you press enter (for a new line) it doesn't make a new line?

nl2br or something like that needs to be used right Ender?

This is actually intentional and an oft-debated "feature" of Markdown. You can get a line break by adding two spaces to the end of a line or just adding the <br /> tag yourself.
