Got this error message after logging my 5th bot out and trying to log in another. I think it's because I logged into a bot that someone else was on, and then logged out. Even though my 5th bot was online, it wasn't me on it, but the game thinks otherwise.

Couple of possible reasons :

  • You timed out
  • You closed that browser, and logged in another "5th" bot, then that bot looks online
  • You closed a browser, open a new one, and log on the same bot. This could do some weird things.

To log on multiple bots on firefox. Windows 7, try this.

Run > "firefox -p" then make profiles. THen run those profiles after -p

So, firefox -p Alan , firefox -p Alan2 , etc.

I know how multiple logins work. All bots were on separate chrome profiles. I'm saying the bug is when I log into a bot that is already logged in, log out of it (leaving the original person online still, which is apparently my 5th log in used up, even though I logged out of it)

Right, the session in the other browser, is still "going". That was covered by the 3rd one :)

No, it's not covered by the third one. There was no "other browser", I didn't close and open a new browser, I clicked log out (my session should end here) and then attempted to log in to the next account.

You're just confusing stuff when you know nothing.

It's a bug/cheating if you login more than 5 bots? Cause I do it.

From the online page:

Here you can see how many bots people are playing at once (you're allowed up to 5 per IP):

So yeah, HAXOR! /me points!

Can't be bothered finding it, but I think Ender has said "something in the code prevents more than 5" but some people can get past it, though he doesn't see it as rule breaking.

Anything more than 5 bots starts to get inefficient in my experience though.

Do you know if the other person who was still logged in was using a different browser? We should eliminate that variable so we know if the cause is multiple people logging, or just being logged into two browsers.

I know if you log into the same bot in two browsers just on your own and log out of one, the other will stay logged in but the session time will reset.

I'm assuming it was Lyrad, and assuming he will read this at some point so here goes. Lyrad, do you use chrome?

usually one of the online bot is Esvrainzas that I use just to read bmails and the forum (and with a different browser - chrome). I usually have another to camp (or a second window open of one bot that I use to camp). So, I usually play (clicking fight/train again) with 4-5 bots. If one of them is small neps, which has long trains, the efficiency remains good.

I've logged 11 bots. I'm sure I know.

Ed has tried to stop it, He was online when I did it. He said he didn't see anything unusual.

For the purposes of enforcing this restriction, only the IP from the most recent login is checked, so this is expected behavior (whether it's ideal is a separate question).

And yes, there's a hole that allows some players to bypass this limit. I never deemed it important enough to track down.

I still doesn't understand how I'm able to login as many bots as I want with the option New session of IE.

I tested right now by logging in 6 bots with IE and I had this bot online in Chrome, so 7 bots at once from the same IP...

I think that would explained by the thread I linked to?

After reading that thread, I guess the hole is when you use different browsers. However, I'm using always the same browser (IE) and I can login as many bots as I want, the rule of max 5 doesn't apply...

I don't think it's anything that obvious. I tried different browsers when trying to reproduce that bug and that's not it. The game simply looks at IP addresses for the purposes of enforcing this restriction, so it doesn't know what browser you're using anyway. If I had to guess, I'd say some of the IP storage optimizations I'm doing are too clever for their own good, but I've not dug into it.

Anyway, discussion of that bug should probably go in that thread, if you want to continue. What was reported in this thread is working as intended, for better or worse.
