The ExpMod for trainbots >=300 is a bit too discrete imo. From BU:

1.0 - Training bot level under 300
1.3 - Training bot level 300-449
1.6 - Training bot level 450-599
1.9 - Training bot level 600-749
2.2 - Training bot level 750-899
2.5 - Training bot level 900+

Currently, there's no real benefit to hitting trainbots like El Terrores (400) or X-Factor (550), simply because the trainbots below them gives the same ExpMod and is much easier to beat. There should be a reason for wanting to train on the next highest trainbot all the time, so I propose a level-based ExpMod. Something like:

1 + ((trainbot level - 300)*0.002)

This retains the same ExpMods as above, but also gives bonuses for hitting bots in between the categories.

So for example, for El Terrores:
1 + ((400-300)*0.002)
= 1.2

So you would get 20% extra xp when training on El Terrores with this mod in place than at present. I don't believe anyone would actually hit El Terrores at present because EL TERMINATORE is only slightly harder, so this would at least give more incentive to train on harder bots. Idk if the trainbots would need to be balanced a bit with this in place, but they probably need a bit of balancing anyway.

Thoughts, criticisms?

Seems like a big change, if there was a change something that might be a little more moderate is once you are past the level 300 bot there is a .1 increase for each higher level training bot instead of the jumps at set points.

I'm not sure if this actually works out with the right number of bots to keep the same xp modification number but you get the idea.

I just realised I messed the formula up slightly. I meant:

1.3 + (((trainbot level - 300)*0.002))

So it would be 1.5 for El Terrores in the example.

@Draoi: it's not a big change, the formula might look intimidating but it's very simple really. It is level-based, so a trainbot that is 100 levels higher than another bot will receive a greater ExpMod difference than one that is only 25 levels higher than the next highest. With your method, you don't account for level difference, which is important as it determines the stats and therefore difficulty of the trainbot.

Although I haven't really looked at your formula(s), I support your suggestion. I've also found that the trainbots right after a ExpMod change are useless to train against.

I think
1 + ((Trainer_level - 300) * .005)
should be used. Everything is buffed just a little.

Sorry, but that's a massive buff not a small one. For example, the ExpMod for fighting Cyborg LX would be 4.5 instead of the current 2.5 or 2.7 with my proposed change. That would account for an 80% boost in xp, which is just too much.

Bump.

We need more EXP mods above Cyborg LX!

The way it is now, it's just not worth it to build your bot to beat anything above Cyborg LX. You just try to get a build with a good win-loss ratio with Cyborg and then stack INT forever.

It won't happen. I've brought this up before. Check the threads, I'm sure you'll find it. Ender does not want to make leveling any easier than it is now and most certainly doesn't want leveling to higher levels easier.

I know this was sort of countered with the buffs, though he quickly changed that around slightly.

I'm now at a point where I get better EXP/train from X-Extreme [1500] than from Triple X [1200], but Triple X still gives better EXP/hour. I guess it helps me maximize my buff usage, but the longer trains with X-Extreme kind of balance it out, and when it all comes together, it's pretty damn hard to make hitting the top three trainbots profitable train partners.

I'm bumping this, because other than for the plats, it really doesn't make much sense to train on any of the higher bots, and doing some sims, it won't for a long time. Maybe something like would prevent things from getting stale, even a bare minimum increase in the ExpMod would be good.

  • 1.0 - Training bot level under 300
  • 1.3 - Training bot level 300-449
  • 1.6 - Training bot level 450-599
  • 1.9 - Training bot level 600-749
  • 2.2 - Training bot level 750-899
  • 2.5 - Training bot level 900+
  • 2.6 - Training bot level 1250+
  • 2.7 - Training bot level 1750+

I think the train bots need an over all reworking.

Could higher defensed armors help atone for the staleness, by allowing us to defeat them at a more reasonable rate?

Maybe a little, but not enough. Besides, more armor would affect the earlier levels too, and might cause imbalances, and is a lot further off. Extra mods past the 900+ one is a quick fix, independent of the showroom.

Ed has talked about revising the armor formula.

So after ~1500 defense, it starts to cap. a Log Formula.

What neps proposes would indeed be a quick change, but with bots4 leveling already faster than bots2 leveling because of buffs, I wonder if this would make the difference even larger.

Also, the armor formula change I've talked about began at 2k defense I believe.

Do some trial runs on a copy of the game first?

Necro powers activate!

Anymore thoughts on this or word on things happening. Like the situation neps had best xp is from TripleX, no reason to become stronger because those points would be better served as int for highest xp/hr.

I'm still hesitant to make the bots4 leveling speed any faster because it's already quite quick with buffs and such.
