The 'n' for new threads never goes away?

It seems to be working for me. Have you manually reset the forum status (at the forum index) or logged out yet? Either of those actions should make the current Ns go away.

Worth noting is that it doesn't reset when you get logged out for idling.

Just logged in before school and the 'N' is still there even on my post.

Yeah that's by design Emanuel, idling didn't reset forum status in bots2 either. Personally, I never logged out in bots2 so I could have complete control over forum resets.

And Alan, you have to click the logout button or the manual reset button for it to change. Did you only idle out maybe?

its great that theres a manual reset button but another nice little tweak could be to have it auto sort it

i.e after youve looked at a new post it auto deducts from the total number of new posts

i have no idea how simple or complex that would be though as it would have to involve tracking where the new posts are and when a user has visited those post (i think its something like that anyway)

The way it works is that a timestamp is stored signifying of what time you've read up to on the forum. The number of new posts is then just the number of posts made after this timestamp. Decrementing the count from individual posts therefore wouldn't work without an overhaul.

i think this system could maybe use some revamping, like removing the 'n' after viewing the post because it is no longer 'new' many forums do this all the time...

unles im mistaken because the "N"'s are placed by looking for all posts after a certain time/date stamp (the lat time you did a manual reset or manual log out) its not possible to remove the "N" from a post you have just read, becasue the new post arent tracked as individual posts but instead their tracked as a set of posts after a time/date stamp, so that only really leaves you the options of removing all the "N"' or not and something like that is allready in place. the manual forum clear button

It would be nice to be able to manually reset each section/thread instead of having to do the whole thing at once. I always feel like I'm going to miss something in between looking at different sections.

What I do when reading the forums is leave the forum index open on one tab and then open each section with new posts in new tabs. I do the same for new threads from each of those tabs and when finished, go back to the original tab sitting at the index and reset. This will reset to the time the forum index was loaded and so any new posts made while reading will now be marked as new (including any replies you yourself may have made during that time).

I hate forums that don't let me decide if I read a thread or not. The fact that I viewed the thread doesn't necessarily mean I read it.
