Nos suggested here http://bots4.net/forum/4/3650 that damage records be kept track of by the game instead of having players do it in a forum thread as has traditionally been done in the past. I think it would be neat, so I've added it to the spreadsheet at P3. Forum threads in the past have only kept track of the top hit per level, but this system could keep track of more than that...say top 10?

Also, I think the obvious question that follows is trophies. What sort of trophies would be reasonable for this? Simply getting into the top list? Having held a position for a certain amount of time? Note that this could introduce additional work because the way the trophy system works right now and how this could require many, many unique trophies to be added. It would be nice for the trophy lists to somehow collapse similar ones to avoid spam. Completionists will probably hate this idea, but it's not like you were going to really collect them all anyway. :)

I think Amount of time would be best. Or even monthly.

I'd say top 3. No reason to have top 10.

I guess it wouldn't be too bad to simply give a trophy every time a record is beaten. It may sound like trophy spam, but considering there's a finite amount of weapons in the game, it won't be long before the records list stabilizes into something that won't be beaten easily.

You could implement a discreet "data-gathering" period, where you could just check for damage records without awarding trophies, then start awarding trophies after the data-gathering is over, with the records at the end of the period becoming the first list. That way it would minimize people getting lucky trophies just because they were the first to train against Infant when you implemented the update.

Also, probably not best to award the trophy several times for the same bot beating its own record. I'm not really sure how to approach this really, seems kind of tricky.

If there is a trophy at that level with that name, Then give them the top trohpy, but not points.

Regarding trophy spam, I wasn't talking about the initial back-and-forth taking of top spots that would happen (it could be dealt with as you said, or I could just begin awarding trophies after a month or whatever to let it settle first). I was talking about having x trophies per level for y levels...x*y new trophies on the list.

I don't think even neps has the time to get top damage for every level lol. Although maybe level 146 and every level after that glass cannon gains hehe. And of course every level he gets on neps that nobody else will achieve.

I'd suggest have a roaming type trophy that only displays within the current holders trophy page but list the last 10 to have held it.

Also, I'd remove the buff points given to players by this trophy considering it is solely for aesthetic purposes and mostly for bragging rights.

Awarding them at the end of the month actually makes more sense since that's how a lot of trophies are currently awarded anyway. And maybe to make this not become stale, it could reset every month, so it'd be another monthly mini-competition. I actually really like that idea...

Yeah, that would be a very nice way to spice it up and keep it from stalling out down the line when no one can get any higher. Very nice idea Ender.

just wondering how this record thing will be kept that you have added to the spread sheet will it be a sticky and it automatically updates as it happens or at the end of the night

and also will it be same records as bots2

most exp in 1 train at level

level 1 - 4000xp sj level 2 - 9000xp sj and on wards

lowest level bot to defeat train bots

infant - level 1 sj x-factor - level 125 aj on wards

highest damage at level

level 1 - 200 sj level 200 - 20000 sj on wards

i hope you get what i mean :)

This would be a separate page like the HoF, not a forum thread, and so updates would happen automatically. And I like the idea of doing this for other sorts of records too. It sounds like we now have:

  • Highest damage per level
  • Most exp in 1 train per level
  • Most exp in 1 fight per level
  • Lowest level to beat each train bot

Each of these could have monthly resets/trophies and would add a few more things to participate in each month.

With the resetting each month, would only obtaining the trophy be the only hard evidence you had achieved this goal, or could we have a previous section, similar to that of monthly clan competition, that maintains the previous months winners?

This might stimulate uber-whoring one's own bots which i think is wrong... Also,the competition here would not be equal.

Trainbots already can go for the trainbot max xp (which is nice). To add something next to maximum hit, you could also opt for most blocks/dodged attempts for dex bots. Then you are nicely rewarding str, int and dex evenly (and possibly we could think of a lvl based trphy for con).

Con would be hard to make up something for. Most hits taken would probably involve extremely boring fights with pure con bots. And something like most damage taken would just amount to your total health, or whatever the other bot hits extra on you.

I'm too tired to think of anything creative for it atm, but my thoughts are it wouldn't be anything exciting.

Boring for you, exciting for the other.

I'm not suggesting "fun" alternatives, but balancing the score card. The current suggestions only benefit strength bots and omit all other bots. That's not what you want.
