Trophies are good incentive, everyone loves trophies :) So a repeatable trophy for voting would be a good idea. Bronze would probably be ideal, since vote-wise it would be best to give one every day for voting. If 15 points a day is too much then maybe it could be it's own type of trophy. Hell, or it could just give some random number of points without a trophy, perhaps a random chance for a jackpot of 100 points or something. I like the trophy idea though, then people would try to have the most voting trophies and there would be more votes \o/
Not sure how Ender would deal with having someone changing their IP voting multiple times though. More votes are great of course, but having potentially infinite trophy points would be a problem.

Make it a bronze trophy for every 10 votes, and only one vote allowed per bot per day. Worth the "effort" whilst also not abusable.
|
The problem with voting is you have to make sure that they actually voted on that site and the vote went through.
There are only a handful of sites that actually "reward" the site when people vote. They usually don't want people be "forced" into voting.

maybe a monthly trophy to the top voter, top 10 voters, so on and so forth
|
Haha that'd be cool. What if several people tie for first though? :P

Quite a while ago on this topic Ed said that he was contemplating a progressive trophy path similar Xwins/losses/trains.

I think we'll need different numbers though. A 100k vote trophy would look pretty nice, but I don't see it happening lol.
|
I like this idea, but it needs different numbers. 15 points a vote is way too much, and I doubt anyone is ever going to accumulate 100k votes. the top 1/10/25/50/100 thing might work (like the energy ones) but it really depends on how many votes are required to hit each tier. also keep in mind you can vote using proxies, so I'm not sure on this 1 vote a day thing. But you do need to make sure people are voting.
|
The sliding scale is not a good idea. People will stop voting after they get all the points. A bronze trophy every 10 days is reasonable and will encourage people to vote every day. That's 45 points per month if voting every day.
I'm sure there must be a simple way to stop a bot getting more than one vote on it per day. Similar checks to how we can only rape another bot once per day.
People can still vote multiple times per day if they want, but on different bots.
|
why would you want to limit a bot to 1 vote a day? the more votes the better. you've just got to be able to keep track of how many votes a bot does and make sure that they are legit votes. as i mentioned earlier proxies will become useful. who cares if a bot can vote 5 times a day? a votes a vote. so maybe have trophies for how many votes a bot gets in a day/month or/and have trophies for voting every day in a week/month/100days? I dunno, just an idea

The number of times a person can vote is restricted by the voting site isn't it? So these public voting places for games will not have any influence form Ed, It's all up to them how many times they'll let an IP or ID vote.
And obviously different numbers people.. I did say simialar, not just like, geez.

This is in the works. The exact reward structure still needs to be worked out, but off the top of my head, I'd want it to at least have the following characteristics:
- Immediate reward for voting (e.g., not a lottery ticket entry, not potential end-of-month trophy, etc.)
- Rewards for multiple votes in the same day
- Reward not OP to the point where system is open to mass vote abuse
The problem with voting is you have to make sure that they actually voted on that site and the vote went through.
There are a handful of ways of dealing with this. Some voting sites provide hooks so that you can be notified when a person votes via a callback. For the ones that don't do this, you can scrape the voting site before/after the player votes (this is what I did with the bots2 voting lottery I ran).

Putting a cap on the number of lottery tickets given to a bot would be the simplest approach I'd think.
