This came up in http://bots4.net/forum/4/5049, but I figured this topic warranted its own thread.

Anyway, people have long been asking for some sort of way to tell how much of each stat (str, dex, con, int) is needed to get to top 10, top 25, and top 100 for the monthly trophies. The maximums are already available in the documentation, so I was planning on just adding the other pieces of info there as well. There were some objections though:

Do the people really have to know everything? How about some things you have to find out the hard way.
Yeah. I prefer the guess work involved when attempting to make a bot for the Top 10 of a stat.
if it was me i wouldn't reveal the top stats it would make everything alot more fun when trying for 1st place :P if they didn't get it they will have to level on or reset and try again

Vocal minority or do people really prefer not knowing?

i think knowing will encourage people to do it, so they know what to aim for :)

+1 for knowing as there would be a goal to work towards.

I'm for not knowing. I never tried to get a stat trophy but I guess it's much more exciting not knowing if you will get the trophy you want or not. I even would hidden the top stats too. That way, people would aim really high to get the platinum.

On the other hand, I agree it would be very annoying to fail let's say, the top100 str trophy, and wait for the next month to get it... Well, I understand both sides but I vote for not knowing.

personally I think more complete knowledge promotes more competition.

I would like knowing, would make goals much more defined and thus seemingly easier to achieve. The possibility for more competition too, especially if people state they are working for top x of a stat.

Hidden trophies are fun for irrelevant things....our bot raped and never won once...is your butt sore yet....could be a hidden bronze so on but as for the bigger ones its better to know.

I'd say 'not knowing'. You're not supposed to see opponents builds/stats/equipment.
If you're curious, attack them :)

how about nearest 100(rounded down)? then you still have some guessing, but at the same time you can have a reasonable idea about how close you are to your goal

I'm for not showing it, you already know what you need to get the top, just assume you need shitloads and go for it.

Not knowing hasn't stopped people, would knowing really encourage more people to go for it? And is that really necessary?

Also, what's next? If enough people ask will my stats be shown on my profile? With my armour setup all specially freaked and all that?

If it gets implemented then Mithrandons idea seems ok.

Well, only those who have access to ratio bots 200+ (or pay to have it...) can compete for the top stats... The other stats (top100 and top25) are easiest because you dont need to level 200+ but more difficult because you dont know what value you need! I'm still for not knowing.

I would like to hear the opinion of Lobster, Fishwick, Myriad and Rene about this matter because they have trophy bots.

As Wiggin mentioned the max is already listed in documentation, so I see nothing wrong in publishing the thresholds for the other trophies.

im a starting off trophy bot haha, not doing to well atm but yeah i think knowing the limits for each trophy would be good. if someone wants to achieve top 100, then 25 then top 10, they would know what they had to do for each

+1 to showing.

Also, it's stupid to make the statement "Are my stats going to be shown on my profile page then?".

Of course they are not. This has nothing to do with it. It won't say who has the X amount of strength for the top 10,25,100 on the list.

I'm leaning towards showing because I like the idea of having attainable/targetable goals. I understand (and usually side with) the hardmode arguments because I feel that games in general are too dumbed-down/targetted at lowest-common-denominator nowadays, but exposing this still feels okay to me.

And yes, if it's not clear, all that would be exposed is that for each stat, 10th place is X, 25th place is Y, and 100th place is Z, where X, Y, and Z are just values and do not include botnames. I have no plans of exposing stats of individual bots.
