Saw a buddy play Fallout the other day and got me thinking of how perks (or traits) could add diversity to bots as well. Now I didn't think this out as best I could because I'm interested in what the general consensus on something like this would be.
You will be able to choose a perk (or a trait) every 10 or 20 so levels. Perks diver and give you certain advantages like:
+4 statpoints
+5% absorb
+5% damage
+10% block
+5% dexterity
+1 level
+10% energy gain per fight
+5,000,000 kudos
+5 redistribution points
-10% strenght requirement on equipment
and so on...
Now as I said this is really raw, but I think with some carefully thought out perks this would definitely give more depth in building bots, instead of just aiming for the most typical builds. Looking forward to hearing some opinions.

As we haven't seen any equipment additions or changes to the fundamental structure of bots in a while, if you are bored with the same old typical builds go make a leveler |

so if im dumping i will never get them You will get as many as other bots at your level? As we haven't seen any equipment additions or changes to the fundamental structure of bots in a while, if you are bored with the same old typical builds go make a leveler Who isn't? It has been the same since bots2. Just giving a suggestion in which more builds, possibly even dex bots at lower levels, will be made more viable. |

Yeah, suggestions are helpful but please consider Ender's current workload. It doesn't help that people keep distracting him from tournaments which is his next release. This change you are suggesting may be good but unrealistic within 2014 at this rate and if Ender did decide to implement this idea it would have to be thoroughly thought in terms of balance and current game implications. I.e. how much work would be involved in restoring these perks to all existing bots and not just providing new bots these perks. Also if I had the top level bot (with a perk every 20 levels, i would suddenly have 18 perks), I could then enable 100% block and 40% absorb with no gear on my bot and 2 weapons. |

If you are suggesting that you can get only 1 of each perk at different levels, eventually you'll still end up with the exact same build at the 300+ levels. And at the low levels, only certain perks would have be favoured. So just as right now there are top builds at certain levels, there will be top builds with the top perks at certain levels over the next year. Once the builds have all been tested there is always a ranking system of the top builds. |

Yeah, suggestions are helpful but please consider Ender's current workload. It doesn't help that people keep distracting him from tournaments which is his next release. I don't get this. Ender is not an infant, he's an adult. He will be more then capable in deciding whether this is something he wants to do. Also if I had the top level bot (with a perk every 20 levels, i would suddenly have 18 perks), I could then enable 100% block and 40% absorb with no gear on my bot and 2 weapons. As I mentioned this was just a raw idea, you're taking it out of context. Common sense would dictate that there will be limitations in which perks (and how many times) you can choose at which levels. So just as right now there are top builds at certain levels, there will be top builds with the top perks at certain levels over the next year. Once the builds have all been tested there is always a ranking system of the top builds. I do not completely concur. Obviously there will always be a best botbuild, it's in the nature of the game. But I believe that with well thought-out perks we can spice-up a better competition between these bots and give people more choice in what type of bot they want to create. Instead of just aiming for lvl 80 answerers, so to say. |

I don't get this. Ender is not an infant, he's an adult. He will be more then capable in deciding whether this is something he wants to do.he wasnt treating ender like a child. he simple meant that ender has one hell of a job and that takes up a lot of his time. so ender choses carefullly what needs to be done first. ender does have a real life. and shoy is just trying to give helpful input. |

My initial thoughts Bas, are I like the idea. Sure it's in the raw & needs padding out. But every pearl starts with a single grain of sand =) It is on similar lines to item enhancements/amulets/gems etc & would add more variety to the game. I've dug up a post from wiggin from almost 3 years ago on such a suggestion:
I think this was the point that Shoy was trying to get across. However the fact that wiggin is busy with tournies should not deter people from posting or discussing ideas. |

I like the idea of adding another dimension to the game like this. More variance between builds is always good in my eyes. But as others mentioned, yes, this gets into tricky areas of game balance that I haven't put too much effort into just yet, so it'll probably be some time before I come back around to this. |

i like this idea its a very good idea but the levels need to be abit more like every 30 atleast the 4stats would be a great help for me atm but by the time this gets added (if it ever does) i wont really need them but it will still be of use :) |
