If two playerd have the same number of wins, wouldnt it make sense that the next tie break to be the direct match between those two bots? I mean, I got second place in a category after crushing first place in direct fight. This doesn't make antany sense..

Tie breakers are determined from your average health remaining after all of the fights. That's actually a more consistent means of choosing a winner opposed to a 1 on 1 fight in my opinion. |

If they are both on first place this already means they beat everyone else. It's like tie-breaking in sports not on their direct result but on how many meters they ran on the field across all games. At least for me it makes no sense |

Think of it this way, a series of sprints. So we have 2 guys that beat everybody else. Rather than a head to head sprint, they simply determine the winner based on the lowest average time across the races they already sprinted. |

Being better on average > being lucky on one fight |

i think that a head to head to settle it would be better |

This has been discussed before. Head to Head would work for a 2 way tie. But if 3 or more people "tied", then what happens in a head to head when Bot A beats Bot B, Bot B beats Bot C, and Bot C beats Bot A. Do another one? And keep going until it's settled? Ender didn't want that headache, so he opted rather for the more universal method that would satisfy almost all ties, regardless of the amount of bots involved in the tie. |

To break a tie between 2 bots, using the winner of their battle makes sense and is straightforward. To break a tie between 3 bots though, there is no straightforward or obvious way to do this using the same mechanism. One idea is to treat 2-way ties one way and treat "n-way for n > 2" ties another way, but I think this would be confusing. Because of this, all ties are broken by average HP remaining, which is a good overall bot performance indicator. |
