Woohoo, watching Idols-like contestants prepare 'gourmet food', while eating microwave blubber.

Although i hate these dumb tv contests, you got to love the blatant 'fuck you' in the face of millions of starving africans. We're trying to see who can best poach an egg, okay!? That's important to us. Go Michael!

You could arguably say the same thing for many other shows (eg. the Biggest Loser, any sort of home renovation show), it all seems pretty insignificant compared to poverty and human suffering huh?

That said, I don't care much for Masterchef either. Just seems like another boring reality TV show to me.

I'm pretty sure that's the gist of what was said.

I wasnt being sanctimonious in my previous post btw. I just wondered how weird it is we don't give a fuck about people starving in africa. It's weird to realize i rather spend a thousand euro on medical bills for my cat, than donate to try save lives, somewhere far abroad.

Suicide bombing in Iraq - meh.
Shooting in Norway - omg!

The closer to home, the more you care. Perfectly natural i guess, but weird nonetheless.

Anyway, sorry for this.. Enjoy MasterChef ^_^

Jans, nice argumenting. Have you heard of Peter Singer? He's an intesting philosopher who a wrote a lot of interesting stuff similar but more elaborate to what you just said... A real good read too :)
