That's a good idea, I'd be up for it even though I don't get into the social aspect of gaming. Which is why I was VERY disappointed when they said it was only playable online...

I bought a new computer a couple months ago and it has best video card currently (HP ENVY 3000 series Beats edition, sweet machine) The video card isn't even on the list (it would be above the high end cards listed as compatible). I'm pretty sure I can run it :) CPU would be the constricting factor, chose the i5, but that's why there's automatic overdrive, whatever intel calls that feature on their chips, I forgot it's name.

Is overclock the word you're looking for?

No. I just Googled it, Turbo Boost is what Intel calls the feature, but yes my understanding is that it's basically like overclocking within the chips safe range of operation. 2.5Ghz -> 3.1 Ghz with Turbo Boost. I felt safe buying it and that it could run DIII. It was certainly not worth upgrading to the i7's for the pitiful Turbo Boost Ghz, only .4 more for $450.

He's using a laptop, 450 bucks into a laptop won't get enough bang for your buck. A desktop however... you could get a nice budget gaming rig.

A few years in the future I may be up for looking for a tower again, but being in an apartment it's just not practical.

but being in an apartment it's just not practical.

How so? As long as you don't live somewhere with electricity, and don't plan on hunting for runes in Starbucks or something, getting more bang for your buck is always practical. Which in this case = PC.

Then again, if you move around a lot, yeah, a laptop would be more practical. I just didn't get the apartment comment. As far as I'm concerned, apartments and desktop computers go pretty well together.

Well, there's more space in a house. Our furnature set up right now has no room for a tower and it'd be work to move things around and I'm lazy. Less portability too, when we go to the GF's parents house, or when I go places.

The fact that a laptop is very portable and small compared to a desktop is nice. Sitting on the couch and doing stuff on the computer while hanging out instead of being cabled into the corner of the room.

You either have to pick between performance or convenience, and I guess the convenience of a laptop outweighs his need for performance :]

This would make me a lot more wet in the pantelones if I wasn't in beta.... they've gone the way of WoW and completed dumbed the game down. Makes me a sad, sad pande :*( However, other then that it's everything I expected it to be :P

Update: Blizzard announced an Open Beta weekend this weekend for Diablo 3. It starts an hour from now and you can play for free all weekend until 10 a.m. on Monday. This is being done as a stress test for the servers. Here is the post on D3's website:

You are welcome Shoe. I tried out the Beta actually. So far got a level 7 Demon Hunter to the second quest all by myself so far. I've found it to be stupidly fun but the only thing I do not like so far is that potions now have a cooldown like they do on Torchlight. I like it when I can waste a stupid amount of pots at once :(

or like when you're taking damage so heavily that you need to take them all at once... cooldown=death

Needing constant internet connection even for single player is a huge turn off for me. Not to mention that means there's no LAN, and even if there was it would be a bit pointless. I also just read up on the auction house, turns out you can trade actual cash for items. Although there's a fee for it of course, and that's for both cash and in-game gold. Blizzard is getting more money hungry in my opinion. I'm really disappointed and I haven't even played the game (apart from the beta). Hopefully Blizzard doesn't end up as bad as EA is. I don't even want to begin ranting about EA.

Needing a constant net connection is the worst thing I have heard of for a game that you can play single player.

^ you do understand that a number of successful games have already implemented trading cash for in game benefits or even in game items?

Yes but in this case it's much different. The auction house was made for players to trade items for gold with other players. However, Blizzard decided to allow players to sell items in the auction house for real world money. Now that sounds cool at first, but they charge you $1 just for listing an item (if I read correctly). They also state it's to prevent people from turning to 3rd party companies to buy items. The logic behind that is completely flawed, they simply just want to take that market for themselves.

Now almost every good piece of equipment will be sold for cash rather than for gold, making it almost impossible to get perfect or near perfect gear unless you grind for it yourself (or pay cash wish is their intent). If you ask me, people are MORE likely to go to 3rd party sites to purchase items. The saddest part is that the people they're milking for money are going to be good honest players who probably didn't purchase from other sites to begin with. And requiring an online connection just emphasizes this even more.
