Just spent over a hour hacking at the build calculator. Trying to come up with something better than workshop freaked blasters at 130.
It's impossible.
My question, why were freaked builds not around in bots2? Like, I know most of the tourny builds for bots2. All the way to ~170. Then 200+. I spent months simming builds against others to find every build for every category. I never came across freaking...

In bots2, if you lacked even 1 stat point for a piece of equipment you took damage every turn. Not very practical.

Ahh. I guess they would work for tournys then?
|
Not really. Every time your weapon takes damage, it loses 1% of it's total damage. Every time your armor takes damage, it loses 1% of it's defense. Considering most tourney builds are quite on the CON heavy side, taking damage every turn doesn't bode well for long fights. Imagine, losing 10% of your damage and 20% of your absorb in ten rounds. Standard answerers, for example, minus ten percent, drop from 343.7 - 687.5 to something like 309.3 - 618.7, which is something like one or two damage points away from equalizers at the same STR, if damage is averaged.
Although, I'm pretty sure I've heard of freaked tourney builds being built back in bots2. Not sure how they fared, but I'm pretty sure some people built them.

You don't take damage if someone attacks you right?
|
You do, during the fight. You take condition damage. The only difference is that after the battle, the attacking bot's condition damage gets subtracted from its dura after the auto-repair, the defender's equipment simply gets restored to the state it was in before the fight. Look at battles, you can see that equipment on both sides takes damage. Any damage to the equipment of the defender will be in effect until the end of the battle.
|
You also lost damage/hitchance for every point missing from weapons. Can't remember the exact amount lost per point.
Defense was dropped by 5 for each stat point missing. Str for armour and dex for shields. There were cases where you could freak the shield and make your bot better. Eg. If you had 216 dex, you could go from a heater to a tower shield and get the extra block whilst not losing any/much total defense. Shields didn't take damage in fights so it was useful.
Armour freaking was useless. The defense drop whilst missing a couple of points in str plus the condition drop during the fight would kill any inital benefit.

By the way Alan, there is a way to make an even better bot at lvl130 or any other level for that matter.
It requires lots of time and resources though.

And probably 4 different sets of armor :P
