Fairphone looks nice, hopefully they take off for people not wanting the best specs. You might want to read this reddit thread to find out why Phoneblok is a bad idea/can't really work.

At the moment, I don't think any top end smartphone is worth the additional price over the nexus 4 (which has just had a $100 price drop due to the nexus 4 maybe coming out soon). It's £159 and has specs to rival pretty much anything but the iphone 5s, galaxy s4 or HTC one.

I assume you mean "nexus 5" "maybe" coming out soon. Also, iPhone sucks.

Yeah, typo, my bad. I don't think Google have said anything about the 5 yet, but there's a lot of speculation and rumours at the minute. Maybe Ender could give us some insider info.

Thanks for that reddit thread :)

It's a pretty ambitious plan, Phoneblok, but it would be cool if it happened. It could work. Look at desktop computers; lots of manufacturers of different components, which have to be standardized because they have to work together, use the same voltage, connectors, etc. Same could apply here.

It's madness it's often cheaper to buy a new phone instead of replacing the cracked display of your current phone. Or because the charge socket is fucked.

But as is said on reddit, a phone might be too small to allow for a modular construction. Still, it'd be nice to have a lego phone ^^

I wonder if they will even bother keeping the number convention. It's the only one they actually used a number for. I figure them to buck the status quo and name it something off-the-wall

@Jans, if the business model worked, the idea behind it would be incredible.

Looks like they reduced it to get rid of stock: http://www.theverge.com/2013/9/16/4738980/google-play-nexus-4-sold-out-not-coming-back
