Hi All,
Pretty sure there's no rule against this. But I've been playing a different game recently (You can play bots and it and the same time don't worry!)
It's still in beta development now and is a skill based game, the unique thing about it is that the developer streams via twitch while he works on the game so you can chat to him!
None referral link: http://www.manapot.com/
If your feeling like it referral link: http://www.manapot.com/r/kojoslayer
If you join, and join my guild give me a shout and ill try to help you out as much as I can. Pretty sure some of you will like this as its a bots style web game, click - wait - click - wait! its still early days so you can suggest things.
Peace

All other games are p00! ...except cod

The page's code is messed up, words are everywhere. You have to register/login through Twitch and give it access to your account. There's no real idea of what the game looks like or acts like. And are those supposed to be your characters? They look like they were made by a 5 year old.
Overall I don't see me liking it.

What text is messed up for you?
Game looks like this for me: http://i.imgur.com/O4vdZWv.png
The game using twich API at the moment but the dev has taken on board not everyone liking that and will be adding an alternative.

I don't play runescape specifically because climbing over walls to train my agility is boring as shit.
I can't believe someone has taken that, made it look more boring, and think people will play it. But hey, good on him for trying?

I think it's the updates. The appear over the What's Happening In Game for me.

i clicked the link, to see what it's about. The page / game doesn't look half bad, but didnt trigger me to look further.
But it made me think, would i start playing Bots if i didn't know the game, and stumbled upon this via some link? The honest answer would be hell no. It's no wonder really only Bots2-people play this.

I like the simplicity of the GUI and page design...

Indeed. I've thought about that a lot too and I think the solution I'm going to go with is a few screenshots and a big red button (or whatever, you get the idea) on the homepage that launches you straight into a battle. The early levels of the game would have to be tweaked to not involve ~60 second battles, but the main idea is that it would throw you right into the action, allow you to distribute workshop points, buy items in the showroom, and get a few basic trophies, all without having to register. Once you make it to level 10 or whatever, the game would ask you to register to save your progress, but at that point, the person is probably hooked. Asking people to come up with a username (and a botname? what's that?!) before even knowing what the game is like really is too high of a bar.

Like totally, like really, like you know, like I guess you are right, like you should like do whatever like you like.

Not sure if serious, but...

Did you just grammar Nazi yourself?

I agree with Jan's screenshot totally how many clans have actually won a month 4-5 ? Some have come close.
I like your idea ender but it makes me think would it give an advantage to experience players who have ratio whores and ect
|
Problem is everything that helps to new players, helps to old players too. Even more so. And i dont think where is way around it.

That's because it's in all multi-player games Fake One. It just depends on the amount of time and energy you're willing to spend to complete a task. If you make the start of the game extremely fast to learn and get good at then you tend to get lots of newbies around. If you make the end game too easy then people quit. The hard part of game design is to combine a beginning, middle, and end that builds upon each other and have them somewhat equal in the amount of time they take, except maybe for end game.
On bots4 you have a mixture of things that don't really build on one another. In bots2 they did because jans index made levels and ratio important along with clan score. You wanted to level your bot and keep around a 3.0 ratio while leveling your whores. At a certain level this becomes stupid, with only a few players ever achieving high cs with level 150+ bots. In bots4 you can achieve maximum energy gaining efficiency at level 30-50 depending on whether or not you get leveled by others. There's not much point in going higher than that if you don't want to/can avoid it. The middle game aka level 100 or so is supported by dumpers because of the similar builds in that level range/freaked bots etc. The end game is the same as bots2 in that you just level as high as you can or gain as many wins/energy etc as possible. Except you have buffs that somewhat speed up the process.
tdlr; bots2 had a transition from start game to middle game, bots4 doesn't, end game is the same in both. Adding things for beginners may or may not be helpful because of it.
Also Ender's idea would be beneficial to only new players. I support it, even if it takes until the year 3000 to implement.
|
Also as a disclaimer I must say I'm not a game designer at all.
|
I've been to the year 3000. Not much has changed but they lived underwater.
|
Oh and your great great great grand daughter is pretty fine!
|
I'm happy about both those comments Jans.

My opinion is that nothing else can really happen until there's a steady stream of new players coming into the game. That's really the base layer of the cake and not much else makes sense without it. Talking about what might or might not be good for new players doesn't matter too much if they don't actually exist, so I want to solve that problem first and then worry about what's ideal for them.
I also think it's easy to forget how much there is to do in this game without being competitive and going "for the win". In bots2, I remember enjoying just going for the next weapon, finding new armor, beating new training bots, and so on. Hopefully with all that and trophies in bots4, there's enough to hold casual players over for at least awhile, and maybe some of them will stick around even longer. If we get that steady stream and the player base becomes more active again, new features and things in general will be a lot more exciting.
|
I always sucked at bots2, the community is what I'm in it for.
|
One of my drives too was shooting for the next weapon just to see what it was like to use; watch the damage go up. I have yet to complete a strength run...... momentary bother with that thought.
I like the idea of trial run up to level x.
