We're dead in the water. I just wanted to post this as a type of funeral for those of us who once called themselves a "gamer". We are now everyone. Everyone can pick up a game of their choosing that's somewhat or fully catered to them. There is no more "a real gamer shouldn't play Peggle or Candy Crush" or in a more personal sense on here, there is no more "we must do EVERYTHING we can do to win this month!" kind of stuff going on because somewhere along the line we all realized that it wasn't worth putting so much effort into. Clans don't get hacked and deleted. Bots aren't hacked (or password shared as much) and their bots taken out before the month ends, or even deleted (this has happened to me personally once or twice). Bots has become Candy Crush in a way. I can buy my way to getting 100 dumpers and a bunch of stars to get lots of buffs and also freak out all my bots. I could have just done the first one in bots2 but since whores were easy to make very few did it. Just like Candy Crush though, not everyone does it. I still have to do the work nonetheless, but the shortcut is there.
It all doesn't matter though. So long as you're happy playing a game and you don't hurt others then good for you. You used to be known as a gamer but now you are just you without a label. And that is wonderful.
For my inspiration on this random thought, have a look here (not my own stuff):

Interesting article.
I fully agree that there is misogyny in gaming & it is a hostile world for female gamers. But I do not agree that 'gamers' are no more. There has always been players that dabble in games & the full on hardcore gamers that eat sleep & live the game. Just because games are accessible to more now doesn't stop gamers. In fact watching online gamers has of recent years seen a huge boost in popularity & followers. Just the other night ChickenBites was chatting in reverential terms about AZK the way others may discuss a great athlete.
As for the bots comments. I think that the dirty tactics are no longer employed is partly due to a more mature player base, but mainly I think it is because pretty much everyone knows & likes each other. Within bots atm there are no bitter rivalries which drives the win at all costs tactics.
TL:DR Gaming is not dead

to be honest I think that bots 2 was way better than this one, because you used to have things like revenge attacks clan wars there was no such thing as 'energy' and there was a lot more competition now the clans are all dead and its only a few that are making an effort to get energy if you look at this month only the top 2 clans are close the rest are way off bots is not what it used to be when I played it some 5-6 years ago its become more like a race now which isn't good at all...
just wanted share that with you guys lol :p

Competition in Bots4 is a race, just as it was in Bots2. No difference there.
But yea, competition in Bots4 isn't as vicious as it used to be in Bots2. The playerbase is small, and we've all aged ;) And it's too well built. Half the fun in Bots2 was trying to find exploits, due to floR's crappy/lazy programming :)

The best exploit being 'sort bots by password' ^^
|
|
sending people bmails with links that would make them quit their clan was fun too ^^

Rose pretty much summed up my thoughts. Also, a "real" gamer will play whatever the fuck they want. Hardcore gamers will also play whatever they want and they will get/be damn good at it.

We all miss Alan!
Well, I think there is still some rivalries :P

Between Eternal and Escapism? Giving each other the silent treatment is rivalry? ;)
Or is there a second forum i'm not aware of where you guys are at each others throats?

I wasn't talking about gaming being dead Rose. Gaming is alive and well and much more varied than ever before. The idea of a "gamer" is pretty well over though. Not like it had much of a grounds in reality anyway. A "hardcore gamer" nowadays is pretty much anybody that can complete the story of a game. Only 10% of players do that though, and 10 years ago they thought it might be 20% (http://www.cnn.com/2011/TECH/gaming.gadgets/08/17/finishing.videogames.snow/).
There does live certain cults of people who still train their skills up in certain games once they finished them, both single-player and multi-player, but the ones that do are pretty much grasping at straws of what is left. There are speed-runs, Starcraft II tournaments and lots of other tournaments (I said Starcraft II because dammit they just train all...day...long) and other places such as those to find "true gamers". For those people those cults will remain so long as people want them. But death comes to an industry when it becomes over saturated in too much supply or not enough customers for its product(s). Gaming had to span out to grab more customers as the "true gamers" were found to not be worth as much as that as "casual" or "mobile" gamers. That increased the supply once it caught on and now hardcore gamers stick to the few places they have left and attack pretty much all other forms of gaming. It's a toxic relationship that has finally ended. Nobody wants any shit from any of the others and we've all separated and now cannot be called gamers as a whole. "Hardcores" will still exist as will everyone else and that is fine, but to say that you are a gamer is tying yourself down to a profile you don't need to. You are yourself! =D
@Gpof A "real" person will play whatever they want. A gamer is that of a profile where you and a game company figure out your likes, dislikes, gender, age, and ethnicity and only buy things that cater to you. I play CoD. I play Doki Doki Universe. I play Assassin's Creed IV. I play Minecraft. They are all separate ideas for games and if a company were tracking my likes and dislikes of games anymore, they'd figure out that I pretty much like anything so long as it's well done. So why bother figured out all the little shit that may interest me? Just focus on the game and people will respect you and buy your game :)

I'm not much of a gamer, but i'm really considering http://www.elitedangerous.com. I played the original game a lot, and it looks like it will be equally amazing. And will ask Santa for an Oculus Rift, to complete the experience.

the thing is, most of player base here is from bots 2, and that was 10+ years ago, so who had like 10 then, has a job and stuff today.
|
I am also converting all my gaming time to Elite Dangerous, and perhaps Star Citizen.
When my new job kicks in enough so I and can afford a decent gaming rig, which I will buy so I can play during the spare two and a half hours I have per week, it'll be so worth though.
