nice to see him keep his word about not staying offline for as long as this again. but i guess he see's it as. why come online or update the game, whilst idiots are still donating and paying his rent :)

yes he as a job, yes he as a life, yes he as a partner but he also as a game which he as forgot about

Makes me wonder why he never made a development team. He had a few good programmers playing this game and he just let them go. He says it's his hobby but maintaining a game is not really a hobby. A hobby is making wooden duck decoys or playing guitar, aka something that you can put away, forget about, and come back to any time you want. A game needs more maintenance than that. People can try to hack it, people can destroy economies, or people can essentially see that there's nobody watching and cheat all they want.

It's just that I have a problem with his thinking that this is a hobby.

He could have just not made it at all. He's not obligated to anything, and we have the choice to play or not. This entitlement mentality is really tiring to read all the time.

It's less of a "he didn't have to make it at all" then a "he could've had a couple of other people handy to do some stuff he didn't have time to do". Emanuel, Clay Banger, they've both made good, helpful scripts for the game. They didn't have to make them at all. Ender didn't make them so they did. There are others who would've liked to help but Ender keeps this game under his grasp under the idea that it is "his hobby". Now that he has pretty much everything that needs his attention on automatic (aka perm stars) he is slowly starting to let the game go like floR did. One day he'll try to log in and find out his game isn't even there like bots2.

Just stating the affairs of things. I could say that if you weren't made I wouldn't be replying to your comment. I'm not obligated to post to your opinion, and you have the choice to listen or not. What you describe isn't entitlement, it's existentialism, or why any of this exists to begin with.

Sure, he could have done that. I'm not arguing whether his choices were the correct or best ones, what I'm saying is ultimately it is his choice, be it for better or worse.

I didn't mean to try and describe anything. My comment toward entitlement wasn't necessarily directed toward you. What prompted me to say it was you saying it isn't a hobby. I'd say it's semantics, but if he sought out recreating bots as a hobby, it is what it is.

This is no surprise to me he always does it and it's pretty lame in my eyes!

Take my route play something else.

It's something that always tickles me, ender made the game and we play it... We know he isn't active, yet we still play and donate... It really doesn't matter to me whether he is active or not, as was said earlier, things have been made automatic, meaning we don't need ender half as much. I think the mods help run this game, if people are suspected of cheating then somebody contacts ed on a personal page and tells him and he looks into it... Maybe he should be more active but he has a life, this is a side project for him. Maybe suggest to him that he let's others help out? But frankly I don't see the problem whether he is active or not

If it was this conversation about 6 months earlier i would be unhappy with ender being MIA, but after he has implemented self serve star transfers and logo pic uploads i couldn't care less!

agreeing with him not having to be here all the time after most of the essential game mechanisms has been automated, but it sure would be nice (and motivating) if we could help him improve on the game. One solution could be putting some of the code on git so we could fork it and push the code back to him, just a thought.

I think that would cause too many people who seek harm or unfair game play to learn how to exploit the game's code Mith. Might be why he doesn't do that.

Aww SJ, don't worry, I wouldn't leave you that easily. :)

Slightly more serious answer: Work has been pretty crazy over the past month or two. It's sort of settling down now, so I expect to be around more in the immediate future.

And yeah, as others mentioned, pretty much everything that people depended on me for is automated now, so I don't see me stepping away for a few weeks as too big a deal anymore. In the past when I did this, I'd have dozens and dozens and dozens of perm star move requests, logo change requests, etc. I get substantially less bmail now and that's great - I shouldn't be spending any significant portion of my time on mindless and repetitive operations stuff.

Finally, though I may not login for some time, I'm never far in the event something catastrophic happens. I have automated monitoring and alerting if the website goes down and will respond to such immediately. Several people have out-of-band ways of reaching me as well.
