Everytime I win a fight I get like 18 to 20 energy, but when I lose my energy decreases only by 11 or so. So if I would fight my exact same duplicate, in the end I would be the one who has gotten the most energy.

Why is this, and how is this fair to the losing bot?

It rewards activity. The initiator of the violence gets the advantage. He can rape you right back. I am assuming that you are the same level, because, as you said, he is your exact duplicate.

I like to think of it as rewarding the effort.

If you're curious about the history and reasoning behind this:

Basically, there would be no point of attacking any bot you didn't do 1:1 or better against without this.
