Completely new idea I had while running today to help spark some competition in the clan race:
Each day, a tally is kept of how much energy is transferred between clans. You can imagine a table with an entry for each clan, showing the net change between those clans:
A B C D A 6 3 -4 B -1 2 C -7 D
So for clan A, A took 6 energy from B, A took 3 energy from C, and D took 4 energy from A.
Here's the fun part. At the end of the day, you build a new chart and rank the clan pairs by energy transfer:
D-C 7 A-B 6 D-A 4 A-C 3 B-D 2 C-B 1
This now means that clan D has pulled off a "heist" on clan C and gets an energy bonus. Here's what I had in mind: For however much the heist was for (7 in this case), that much more energy gets taken from the heisted clan. So in addition to the 7 energy clan D took from clan C, D now receives an additional 7 energy from clan C. This could come evenly from all bots in C (each bot gives a little more if one doesn't have enough) as long as the clan collectively has enough.
Also, heists would only be possible between clans "in the green" (clans with an amount of energy greater than their regen amount). This is because heists are meant to encourage fighting between real clans and real clans will be in green.
I like this idea for a lot of reasons:
- It's something else to do. It's a daily mini-race between clans. There could be a leaderboard showing the day's standings so people know if their clan is close to pulling one off.
- It encourages attacking "real" players in "real" clans. I know this is an issue of some debate and I will be working hard to make the game more diverse and make it so that this is not the simple matter of every "real" bot having the de facto build for a certain level.
- It gives clans a way to pull down a clan that's off to a big lead. As it stands, the clan that's winning after the first week is the one that's winning at the end of the month (with rare exception). Things get stale/quiet by the end of the month. The energy system is nice to begin with because when you attack someone, you both gain energy yourself as well as take energy away from someone else. This means it's already possible to "take a clan down", but we're not really seeing much of that. With heists, this effect is doubled so it becomes even more lucrative to attack a top clan.
And for those worried about the issue of leveling up too fast from fighting real bots with high ratios, see here: /4/2126.
Maybe there could even be a 10% energy bonus at the end of the month for the clan that pulls off the most heists that month or something. I'm open to ideas. Don't get hung up on the details like how many heists per day there should be or what the exact bonus for pulling off a heist should be. We can iron those little things out later.
What do you guys think of the main idea?
