This came up in response to a question in the thread where we decided to remove NC:

As for the EPH toggle resetting your energy, no, I don't see it doing this. It would be an EPH toggle and nothing more. This means that yes, you could turn off your EPH to inflate your energy ratio. Maybe that stat should go away though, I think it's confusing and not sure how useful it is. Probably a subject for a separate thread though.

This stat has always felt like a bit of an afterthought and it seems weird/confusing. That being said, players are using it to guess Atreides' end-of-month energy ratio, so perhaps it's not totally useless.

So what do you think? No purpose at all? Take it or leave it? Absolutely essential?

would say it can be helpful as its a good indicator of how well a player is doing at gathering energy

That being said, players are using it to guess Atreides' end-of-month energy ratio, so perhaps it's not totally useless.

I don't really think thats a "use" for it, we could just guess the energy they end on (admittedly with a tiny calculation)

Are you considering removing it completely? How will you decide a bots EPH? (Or will it still be in use, just not visible to the bot?).

The ratio itself doesn't have a use other than being able to compare if you are on track with bots (or clans) from previous months. They can do that anyway with a quick calculation (last months energy/days in last month*days into current month) and it could be argued it isn't really worth it just to save someone working it out themselves.

Yeah, I'm considering removing it completely to simplify things. And I actually forgot that this stat plays into the EPH formula, so I suppose that would have to be adjusted slightly, but I don't think that will be too difficult/controversial.

I like the energy ratio.

I'm a targets person & it gives me something to aim for. For instance this month I had a hard target of x20 & a soft target of x25.

you can use absolute values of monthly energy for goals. i think the energy ratio doesn't add much value, but i don't think its worth the effort to remove it for the minimal potential confusion there may be.

Yes, I realise that other measures can be used Shoy, but that's not the point of the thread.

is the ratio value useful to me, yes.

If you ask the same question about any stat you will always get varying answers, some people use some features and others will use a different one. Invariably the game can be run without most of these features, but that may be at the expense of the enjoyment factor for some.

Personally I am of the opinion that you can never have too many stats :)

I like the energy ratio it shows how much effort the player(s)/clan has put in throughout the month :)

I like it because it is green. The more green things on my bots' name the happier I am.

It's a stat, and i like stats, so yea. Is it confusing? Yes, i've been asked more than once what it means. But i think that's mostly because of the way it's presented, like it's very important. While it's not.

Wins and losses are shown in their own column, and so is ratio. Energy-ratio is a ratio too, but it's shown very differently, between parentheses and an 'x', like it's part of some complicated mathematical formula...

I think that's the main reason why it's unclear to some people at first; it's not labeled properly, and therefore not immediately obvious what it is.

This is just a thought, but maybe split (monthly) energy into two columns? That makes it more obvious where the ratio is coming from.

Wins Losses Ratio EPH Generated Current Ratio
 500 100 5.0 60 2400 8120 3.38
 999 2 499.5 60 2400 60 0.03

(the stats dont actually make a lot of sense.. but you get the idea)

I like having it there, it's fun to try and race the clock to try and keep above certain integers.

Sounds like it's not totally useless and this game has traditionally always been heavy on (sometimes useless) stats, so I guess I'll keep it.
